Private Instruction


In order to help players learn and improve skills, Richmond Volleyball Club is dedicated to offering quality instruction for players 12 and up.  Individual and group instruction focus on a variety of skills, including passing, setting, hitting, blocking and serving. With a wealth of coaching experience at all levels, our coaching staff is able to provide instruction in an individual or group setting on all aspects of volleyball.

Instructors who have chosen to give lessons have added their availability to Esoft which will appear as blue blocks on Esoft. If there is not availability posted in Esoft, then there is not an instructor available. Questions about private instruction may be sent to

**If you are new to private instruction, then you will need to create your player an account in Esoft in order to book lessons for them. Click here to register a new player in Esoft.  This account is different then your RVC membership account.**

NOTE: Lessons must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Esoft will not allow for same day reservations. 

Please do not book lessons with coaches for the two months leading up to tryouts if the coach may potentially be your child’s coach. In other words, if your child will be playing in the 16’s age group, do not book a lesson with any of the 16’s coaches during that time period.  Thank you.

Guidelines for Private Instruction Sessions

All participants must book and pay through Esoft prior to the lesson and complete the CDC health screening survey just before the lesson. No player will be allowed to participate without displaying a “pass” screen. The survey may be found at or (easiest method) by scanning this QR code with your phone and displaying it upon entry.  If the player is unable to display a “pass” screen, the lesson will be cancelled and no refund will be given. Please support our efforts to keep our participants and staff safe and well by following these guidelines.

  1. Everyone who enters the building (player or parent) must wear a mask.
  2. There must be an adult with every participant. This adult must maintain at least a 6-foot distance from the court and the coach.
  3. Player must use hand sanitizer on hands and forearms before lesson begins and will need to bring own sanitizer. We also recommend that the player sanitize their hands and forearms after the lesson as well.
  4. Coaches will be required to wear a mask or facial covering and to sanitize their hands and arms as well.
  5. Please do your best to avoid arriving early for your lesson, in order to avoid cross over with previous lesson. And, please leave promptly once the lesson is completed. If you have questions regarding the player’s progress or something taught during the lesson, please email them to and we will forward to the coach.
  6. Volleyballs will be disinfected after each lesson.
  7. Only the bottle fillers at the water fountains are available for use at this time. Please be sure to bring a bottle of water for use during your lesson .
  8. Chairs/seating will not be provided. If you would like to have seating, be sure to bring your own.

Cancellation Policy


Once a Private Instruction has been arranged, 24 hours notice is required for cancellation.  Failure to do so obligates customer to all lesson and court fees.




    Sydney Alvis

    Juniors Beach and Summer Camps Coach

    Sydney played libero at Coastal Carolina University where she earned a degree in Exercise Science. During her career at CCU, Sydney was a 2x Conference Champion with NCAA appearances, was the 2018 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year, and the 2019 Coastal Carolina Female Athlete of the Year. Her collegiate experience encompassed 4 years of both indoor and beach experience. Last summer, Sydney was also one of the head coaches for the RVC beach program and coached JV Bootcamp during summer camps.

    Wes Bolyard

    Boys 16-2 Head Coach at RVC 

    Before playing beach volleyball at UVA, Wes was a setter and the JV Boys coach at Prince George High School for three and two years, respectively. Several years after graduating, he spent two years at Maggie Walker, coaching the JV Boys for a year before taking over the program and leading them to their best season to date, ending it as the 4A State Runners Up. He has now taken a position running the Boys Varsity team at Patrick Henry High School, and coaches the 16 Boys Zonal team during the travel season.

    Kelly Fraser

    Boys 17-1 Assistant Coach at RVC 

    Kelly played all four years in college as a starting libero and has since coached  high school girls, RVC middle school league and top boys travel level. Since diving into the sport in 2006, he has competed in beach, grass, and indoor tournaments accumulating a strong foundation of all fundamentals to go along with his libero expertise; as a player he helped lead both JMU A club and men’s adult teams towards local tournament titles, and their best nationals finishes to date.

    Kelly specializes in honing the skills of liberos/DS but works with all athletes wanting to improve all volleyball skills as well as increasing lateral speed/quickness to go along with his expertise in vertical jump enhancement.     Andre Spencer

    Andre spent 4 years as an Assistant Coach for VCU women’s volleyball before becoming one of the original coaches for RVC juniors travel program back when it started in 1994. During his time with RVC juniors, Andre coaches various ages and levels including National level teams. He then continued his volleyball career through refereeing Women’s Division I, II, III, Men’s Division I, and USA volleyball. Currently, Andre coaches at RVC in our City League and is starting his fourth year as the Head Coach for Saint Gertrude’s Varsity Girls.

    Rose White

    Recruiting Coordinator at RVC

    Rose played D1 volleyball at Sacramento State University as a setter and after college she began her coaching career at Florida International University as a Graduate Assistant. From FIU she moved on to Morgan State University as an assistant, and then she became the head coach at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a small D3 school. Most recently she was the head coach at Virginia State University. In addition to her college coaching career, she has worked for Gold Medal Squared, South Florida Volleyball Club, Time Out Volleyball Club and here at Richmond Volleyball Club as the Girls 16 State and 18 National Head Coach. Currently, Rose works at Collegiate School as a program leader and now serves as the Recruiting Coordinator at RVC. See Esoft, our private lessons calendar, for Rose’s availability.

    As the new program leader at Collegiate School, Rose is unable to do lessons with Collegiate students to avoid a conflict of interest.
